[glow=blue,2,300]A “WOW WAYNE’S WORLD”[/glow][/size]
For the past 19 years, I have been listening to Wayne’s Album, the Soundtrack to the movie “Morning of the Earth”. This was a 1972 Classic Surf Movie. This was a movie with a cult following and a movie that in recent times has seen a resurgence in popularity, especially with the younger generation.
This movie was a first of it’s kind. Incredibly awesome footage and imagery, yet it contains NO dialogue. The Soundtrack IS the dialogue. Listening to the Soundtrack itself seems to almost give you the incredibly awesome imagery of the movie. An extremely unique combination, where you simply cannot separate the Movie from the Soundtrack. The Soundtrack is an entity in it’s own right as it carries and sweeps the movie through as if it be the wave itself.
G. Wayne Thomas produced this Soundtrack Masterpiece. That much I did know about the album I loved so much. My partner throughout those years was a surfer through and through and introduced it to me on cassette. It was a thrill when it was released on CD years later.
Through all those years when trying times fell upon me, I’d listen to this album to uplift and inspire me to keep going. There was something very soothing and calming about it, allowing a sense of peace to wash over me.
In my times where I found myself in the most distress, I’d ‘cut to the chase’ to get the songs that made me feel good. There were 3 of them.
I’d never checked who wrote them, but these 3 songs were simply Magic to my Soul:
“Morning Of The Earth”
'Open Up Your Heart”
“Day Comes”
It was “Open Up Your Heart” that really captured me and it always helped me to feel good. I loved the sound of this sincere and almost Angelic voice that was yet very real and very grounded. This person was not actually “telling” me to open up my heart, but more suggesting that if I DO open up my heart then all good things will happen.
This song gave me hope in times of endurance and it’s music filled my heart and made me feel good.
I believe now that this was the effect it had on most people. Wayne made a huge impact on our psyche through his music.
Having said all that, you will now appreciate an out-of-the-blue “Wow” moment, that after 19 years I was about to experience.
I was to discover that a friend of mine KNEW Wayne! So I met G. Wayne Thomas! Wow!
There is another ‘Wow’ to come. You see, I never read the CD inside sleeve information, and so I thought Wayne only did the title track itself “Morning of the Earth”. Wayne informed me that he actually did 3 songs on the album, I felt such a twit! When he told me what songs they were I nearly died. I nearly spluttered my drink all over him in stunned amazement! Wayne’s 3 tracks were the very 3 songs that I LOVED so much! I sat now in awe of this man sitting in front of me. An incredibly “Wow” moment for sure.
That was near 5 years ago, and I am now both Proud and Privileged to say that G. Wayne Thomas is now a personal friend of mine.
Remember though that in the beginning I knew absolutely NOTHING about Wayne other than his “Morning of the Earth” fame. I googled him to find out more about the man himself. It was very frustrating because there was NO information out there on him.
So this is what my first complaint was to him.
I told him I wanted to write some sort of biography for him and to put on the internet for the thousands of others like myself who have wanted to know more about him. He agreed with me and said we would do one. Time just rolled on by. . . . . .
So from knowing nothing of Wayne, I was soon to discover very quickly that there really was a “Wow Wayne’s World” waiting to be discovered.
I had no idea he wrote any other music until he began to share some of his Folk Rock and Rock & Roll music with me. It was a very exciting time for me as he slowly fed me songs, and like a hungry baby bird, I kept wanting to hear more. I listened to and absorbed everything he gave me and I just LOVED them all. The reason I say it was exciting, was because I couldn’t believe that he had written SO much music and that each song I heard would do what every other one of his songs did to me, and that’s make me feel good! For me that’s like hitting the jackpot!
His Awesome Voice that just slices through to my middle and uplifts my spirit. His songs stimulate and inspire with sweet surprises of sound and movement with his unique style of arrangements and his choice of instruments. His lyrics are at times powerful, thought provoking, and often giving the listener a sense of peace and hope. Each song is unique to the next, and they all seem to tell a story in some way, like a mini play in themselves. Not only are his lyrics cleverly written, but he also sings them all so beautifully. One of those rare singers who actually articulates his words delicately at the end of each line, allowing you to hear each word and so actually hear the whole story told within the song.
I literally feasted for ages on all this new music, and I digested it slowly as I savored each song delivered to me.
Of course there were some songs that jarred Wayne, and for whatever reasons they were, did NOT prevent ME loving them. What did perhaps jar him further was the fact that I played them a lot and he was made to listen to them again!
When I first started to prattle and praise him for his music, he told me a secret. He told me the secret to writing a good song. He told me there were four things, and using his fingers to count the four of them, he told me. “A good song must SURPRISE, DELIGHT, ENTERTAIN & RESPECT.”
I sat with that for a few moments, matched those words with his own music and how it makes me feel. He was spot on. His music contained all those four elements to me. I am always SURPRISED, DELIGHTED, ENTERTAINED, and I always feel he has RESPECTED me the listener by ensuring that they are delivered with purity and quality.
So now I wanted to know more. . . I wanted to know more about these songs, the arrangements, the musicians in each of them, and more about just HOW this man actually creates them!
Wayne is a Magician Musician who has an innate talent and incredible ability to weave the notes, lyrics, instruments and sound into a rich tapestry.
His songs cast spells as they draw you in to a world of Music Magic.
Below are some words from Wayne that have actually helped me greatly. It’s not like these words are anything new to me either, but somehow for some reason, when Wayne says them to me it’s different.
I actually BELIEVE him. I find myself responding with ‘of course’. I’m going to thread some of these “classics’ throughout this section of writing to break it up a bit. SO. . .
[glow=blue,2,300]WAYNE’S WISE WORDS OF WISDOM:[/glow]
I had lapsed into a state of stress over something one day whilst talking with Wayne, and he stopped me and asked me, “What is the first rule of the Universe?”
Well, right here a lot of answers came flooding into my brain, but I decided to allow him to inform me.
“Well, no, I guess I’m not sure really. What IS the first rule of the Universe?”
“DON’T PANIC,” was Wayne’s reply.
